Evaluation and application of Drosophila melanogaster model for anti-cancer herb screening

In this study, we evaluate Drosophila melanogaster model which over-express YorkieS168A protein in order to apply the model for anti-cancer herb screening. Transcriptional co-activator YorkieS168A (Yki) plays a role in organ size control and concerns some cancer diseases. In fly model, over-expression of YorkieS168A protein at eye tissue causes abnormal eye phenotype. As mass of cancerous cells, the abnormal eye phenotype is resulted by miss-control of cell proliferation as shown by anti PH3 signal after morphogenesis furrow. Interestingly, our results also show that ethanol 50% extraction of Ehretia asperula Zoll. & Mor. reduces abnormal eye phenotype in over-expressed YkiS168A flies. All the results show that over-expressed YkiS168A fly model serves as a potential model for anti-cancer herb screening.
